UPDATE: PCG monitors the towing operations for the capsized MV Hong Hai 189

UPDATE: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) monitored the towing operations for the capsized MV HONG HAI 189 from Corregidor Island to the vicinity waters off Barangay Sisiman, Mariveles, Bataan, yesterday, 01 May 2023.

MTUG TIRAD PASS safety towed the distressed vessel approximately 400 yards from Sisiman Lighthouse.

PCG personnel also installed oil spill booms as a precautionary measure as they observed no trace of an oil spill during the assessment.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) responds to a collision between MV Hong Hai 189 and MT Petite Soeur at the vicinity waters off Corregidor Island yesterday, 28 April 2023.


MV HONG HAI 189

Last Port – Botolan, Zambales

 

MT PETITE SOEUR

Flag – Marshall Island

Type – Chemical / Oil Product Tanker

Last Port – Mariveles, Bataan

 

The Coast Guard Sub-Station Corregidor was informed that MV Hong Hai 189 already capsized.

The PCG vessel, BRP Capones, was directed to proceed to the incident area.

According to Heng Da 19, the rescue vessel near the vicinity of the incident, they already rescued 16 of the 20 crew of MV Hong Hai 189.

Today, 29 April 2023, the PCG dispatched another vessel, plus aluminum boats and rubber boats, to assist the SAR operations.

As of 7:30AM, the SAR team recovered one cadaver (Chinese crew).

The SAR operations for the last three missing crew of MV Hong Hai 189 continue.

The Coast Guard Aviation Force is currently conducting an aerial survey to augment the SAR operations.

Meanwhile, all 21 crew of MT Petite Soeur were in good physical condition.

The authorities will conduct a port state control inspection to MT Petite Soeur to hold and detain the vessel.
