Hong Kong’s pioneering ship leasing firm SeaKapital, led by chief executive Kenneth Lam, and chairman Sabrina Chao have entered into a joint venture with the Veniamis family from Golden Union Shipping Co SA to purchase up to six 20,000-cbm LNG bunkering vessels.
Firm orders have been made for two such vessels at Ningbo Xinle Shipbuilding Group, with options for a further four sister ships. Opinion in the market is that the total order could be worth up to US$516m
“The vessels will be employed worldwide with the first delivery expected in late 2026,” said Mr Lam.
“The joint venture is very confident about the long-term prospects of these vessels owing to the increasing global demand for such tonnages. The vessels will play a key role in supporting the global shipping industry’s decarbonization efforts, contributing towards more sustainable maritime operations,” he added.
