Dalian ore futures prices tumbled to log their steepest daily fall in almost two years on Monday, weighed down by a batch of dismal economic data from top consumer China.

Brazilian miner Vale (VALE3.SA), opens new tab, one of the world's largest iron ore producers, said on Thursday its second-quarter net profit soared to $2.77 billion, triple the year-earlier period and above analyst estimates as sales jumped.

Iron ore futures prices rose on Monday to their highest levels in nearly two weeks, helped by better-than-expected factory data in top consumer China and hopes of more stimulus measures in the world’s second-largest economy later this month.

The Baltic Exchange's main sea freight index, which tracks rates for ships ferrying dry bulk commodities, edged higher on Wednesday as gains in the panamax vessel segment countered declines in the larger capesize segment.
