3rd BLUE SHIPPING S U M M I T 2 0 1 3

14 Ιουλίου 2013.

blueshipingWhy Protecting the Environment makes Good Business Sense? Τhe 3rd Blue Shipping Summit was once again a very successful event.Last year during the 2nd Blue Shipping Summit the question on our minds was: does it make business sense to be environmentally conscious?

And the participants discovered that YES it does make sense to be eco-friendly, however not for everyone. The aim of the 3rd Blue Shipping Summit was to analyze all the components of being environmentally friendly and profitable. Does one automatically exclude the other? Many people would argue that YES new regulations will be raising the cost of shipping an ultimately the consumer will pay the price. Others say that it is possible to innovate, stay ahead of the curve and still make money.

Technological companies have had ample time to come up with solutions that fit a spectrum of shipping situations. And now it’s time for the shipowners and charterers to decide which of those solutions are right for them, or perhaps say that no, technology has not come up with the right answer for the Shipping Industry yet.

During this difficult market, any change seems like a lot to take on. But as where some people see downturn, others see opportunity. The Shipping Industry is trying to see the opportunities in these great changes in todays over regulated world.

So we are asking the shipping community the following questions:

Does it make sense to jump on the environmental wagon first?

What are the benefits and what are the disadvantages to going green?

How do we, as an industry, effectively manage our energy consumption, which is such a big part of our operating costs?

How must long-lasting sustainable business decisions be made to continue our business?

How do we make profits, stay environmentally conscious, and most importantly relevant and attractive to charters?

The 3rd Blue Shipping Summit was once again gathering the leading policy makers, politicians, shipowners, shipbuilders, marine equipment manufacturers, financiers, investors, charters, ship brokers, entrepreneurs, environmentalists, journalists, and other members of the international maritime community in order to learn, discuss and debate all contemporary and urgent environmental themes, which are of vital importance to the future of the maritime industry.
